Melissa Haluszczak signs "Repeal It Pledge"
Melissa Haluszczak candidate for the United States House of Representatives in the PA 14th Congressional district (seat currently held by Mike Doyle), today signed the "Repeal It Pledge."The pledge, currently signed by over 262 candidates and 66 sitting lawmakers, commits the signer to "...pledge to the people of my district/state upon my election to the U.S. House of Representatives/U.S. Senate, to sponsor and support legislation to repeal any federal health care takeover passed in 2010, and replace it with real reforms that lower health care costs without growing government."
In signing the document, Melissa said, "I support real healthcare reforms that will improve access, quality, and lower cost. The bill voted for by the incumbent is being promoted by him as an historical event that will increase access and lower cost. In reality, there is nothing historic about a government takeover of healthcare. It has been done across Europe and Canada with predictable, unfavorable results. That is why the privileged few in each of those countries come to America for their urgent health care needs. That is why cancer survivability rates in America out perform these countries. The bill my opponent voted for will bankrupt our nation, limit availability, sacrifice quality, and increase cost. That is why I favor its repeal.
Real reform is about (a) individual ownership of health insurance (so it is portable from job to job), (b) tax credits for individual purchases of health insurance (Health Savings Accounts), (c) reduced mandates and restrictions on HSAs, (d) inclusion of a safety net for citizens at the poverty level, (e) tort reform with regard to non-economic damages, and (f) cross state purchases of health insurance (competition between the nearly 2000 insurance companies)."
