Comments on Rep. Doyle's Healthcare deal-making

Melissa Haluszczak, Candidate for the U. S. Congress in PA-14th District, comments on Representative Doyle’s Healthcare bill deal-making regarding abortion

Remember when our Representatives in Congress told us "…we don't have time to read these bills before we vote on them?” Now, during the so-called healthcare reform’s final deal-making, Congressman and impeached judge Representative Alcee Hastings said, “All this talk about rules, we make them up as we go along.”

A key participant in this rule-making is the incumbent in the 14th Congressional District. As reported Tuesday, March 23, 2010, in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Mr. Doyle was at the center of a last-minute compromise on abortion that won the final votes necessary for passage. Rather than amend the bill to forbid the taxpayer funding of abortion, Congressman Doyle apparently convinced Congressman Stupak that an executive order could be used, making Congressman Doyle the architect of the Stupak Sellout.

It is naďve for any elected official, especially one who describes himself as ‘pro-life,' to expect that an Executive Order that reasserts the intentions of the Hyde Amendment will override the force of law. It is equally naďve to expect such an order to be fulfilled by the most pro-abortion president to ever sit in the White House. Perhaps Mr. Doyle, Mr. Stupak and their fellow so-called pro-life colleagues forget that President Obama's first Executive Order was the repeal of the Mexico City Policy, the result of which was to once again allow for international funding of abortion.

Unlike previous elections, citizens in the 14th Congressional district have a choice this November. Melissa Haluszczak’s commitment to pro-life does not include deal-making to pass an abortion funding healthcare bill. “My commitment to life will never be compromised to pass any legislation”, commented Melissa.
