Health Care

Citizens in our District and in our region are worried about the rising cost of health care, access to health care, and the quality of health care.

These concerns will not be addressed by a nationalized healthcare system like the one being advocated by Representative Doyle.  It is impossible to describe a 2,000 page bill with 111 new boards, bureaucracies, commissions and programs as anything other than the mechanism to replace private health care with government health care. My opponent voted for taking away health care resources from senior citizens, taking away the doctor patient relationship, increasing taxes on small businesses, and inflicting penalties on citizens through the IRS code.

Instead of giving government bureaucrats more power, Melissa believes the best way to lower the cost of health care is by giving more choices and power to patients.

Real reform is about
  •  Individual ownership of health insurance (so it is portable from job to job),
  • Tax credits for individual purchases of health insurance (Health Savings Accounts),
  • Cross state purchases of health insurance (competition between the nearly 2000 insurance companies),
  • Reduced mandates and restrictions on Health Savings Accounts
  • Tort reform with regard to non-economic damages.
